Trade Everything

Walk into any investing conference and you’ll hear the same introductions.

“I’m a gold guy.”

“I’m an oil guy.”

“I’m a tech investor.”

I’ve never understood that.

My goal isn’t to be known as a gold guy or an energy guy. My goal is to make money.

That means I have to be a macro guy.

Markets are constantly rotating. One year it’s technology. The next it’s energy. Then agriculture, emerging markets, financials, shipping, industrials... Leadership never stands still, so why should your portfolio?

One of the biggest advantages individual investors have is the freedom to follow the trends wherever they appear. We aren’t forced to stay in one sector or one style. We can adapt.

When uranium weakens, we move on. When homebuilders move, we buy them. If shipping catches a bid, we’ll own that too.

We’re not emotionally attached to sectors.

We’re attached to trends.

The challenge is that humans naturally gravitate toward specialization. It feels comfortable to become “the gold expert” or “the AI expert.” Trading everything sounds overwhelming because people assume they need to become experts in every industry.

You don’t.

You simply need a repeatable process.

Whether your methodology is technical analysis, fundamentals, macroeconomic models, quantitative, or some combination of all three doesn’t really matter. What matters is that you apply it consistently across every market.

The process should stay the same.

Only the ticker changes.

Portfolio construction is just as important as stock selection.

Even if you’re bullish on a particular theme, you never want one sector to become so dominant that a single rotation overwhelms your entire portfolio. Diversification isn’t about owning hundreds of random stocks. It’s about owning multiple independent trends that can work at different points in the market cycle.
